⚓ WHAT WE TAKE: RHODE ISLAND

🌊 Your Partner in Full-Service Junk Removal

Rhode Island has some of the most robust recycling and disposal mandates in the country, especially for mattresses and electronics, largely driven by the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC). JUNK-RAT is here to navigate these rules, ensuring your junk is not just gone, but gone to the right place—like the Central Landfill, the RIRRC’s facilities, or a local recycler.

🛋️ Furniture & Bulky Items

We make quick work of the large items that city services often limit to one per week.

  • Mattresses & Box Springs: This is a big one in RI! State law requires that mattresses and box springs be recycled. We handle the proper transportation and delivery to a designated Bye Bye Mattress program recycler.
  • Furniture: Sofas, chairs, tables, hutches, bookshelves, recliners, and all household/office furniture.
  • Appliances (White Goods): Washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, and water heaters. We ensure proper handling for scrap metal recycling.
  • Yard Waste: Branches, brush, leaves, and general landscaping debris.
  • Textiles: Old clothing, rags, blankets, and towels.

💻 Specialized & Mandated Recyclables

Rhode Island strictly bans certain items from the Central Landfill. We guarantee proper disposal and recycling for these items.

  • Electronics (E-Waste): Computers (CPUs, towers, monitors), laptops, tablets, and televisions are banned from landfill disposal by state law. We ensure these “Covered Electronic Products” are transported to a state-approved e-waste recycler.
    • Note: Other electronics like printers, keyboards, and peripherals are also accepted and recycled.
  • Refrigerators, Freezers & AC Units: Any appliance that contains Freon or other refrigerants requires the removal and proper processing of those substances before recycling. We handle the entire process.
  • Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris: Waste from remodeling and repairs, including wood, concrete, asphalt, shingles, and drywall. This is taken to the appropriate C&D disposal or recycling area at the RIRRC facility.
  • Tires: We ensure proper disposal of tires outside of the municipal waste stream.

🚫 Prohibited Waste

The state’s Eco-Depot program handles all Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). We cannot transport these items.

  • Hazardous Waste: Anything labeled toxic, poisonous, flammable, or corrosive, including liquid paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, pool chemicals, pesticides, and rechargeable batteries.
  • Regulated Medical Waste and Asbestos.
